Understanding what a TPMS check is

A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is an innovative solution to flat tyres.

Included as standard in all new vehicles manufactured since 2014, a sensor valve continually monitors tyre pressures, reporting low pressures or pressure imbalances via the driver’s dashboard display.

Usually, these sensors are set to deliver a warning if pressure drops between 6-7 PSI, indicating a puncture or flat tire.

However, like all systems, errors can occur. During a TMPS check, technicians examine the condition and functionality of the sensors in each tyre, which relay pressure information to the vehicle’s computer system.

They’ll ensure the sensors are accurate and in good working condition. Appropriate corrective action is taken if any issues are detected, such as a faulty sensor or a battery nearing the end of its life

Wheel balancing and disposal are included in the price of all tyre fittings.

Why Tyre Pressure Matters

All drivers know you shouldn’t drive on flat tyres. But why? The more inflated your tyres, the less contact they have with the road. That reduces wear, improves grip, and boosts fuel efficiency. Overall, you can expect the following benefits:

  • Ensures optimal tire performance and grip on the road
  • Reduces tire wear, prolonging tire life
  • Enhances fuel efficiency by minimising rolling resistance
  • Improves vehicle handling and stability
  • Lowers the risk of tire blowouts and accidents
  • Increases overall driving safety
  • Helps maintain correct vehicle alignment
  • Reduces carbon emissions for environmental benefits
  • Provides a smoother and more comfortable ride
  • Saves money on fuel and tire replacements over time

What is a TPMS check?2023-12-20T15:20:07+00:00

A TPMS check, or Tyre Pressure Monitoring System check, is a service where our technicians verify that your vehicle’s TPMS system is functioning correctly. The TPMS is a safety feature in modern cars that monitors the air pressure in your tyres.

Avoid immediate MOT Failures

The more you drive, the faster the tyre pressure sensor’s battery will deplete.

That’s by far the most common problem. But, placed in the wheels, these sensors also undergo substantial wear and tear and can require replacement.

As of 1 January 2015, a faulty TPMS sensor is an immediate MOT failure. The law states that a significant loss in tyre air pressure should signal a TPMS warning light on the dashboard.

Therefore, ensuring you undergo regular TPMS checks keeps your vehicle legally road-worthy.
